Delicious Mocha Nice Cream with pecans is a creamy and crunchy chocolate espresso version of frozen banana nice cream. Enjoy this dairy-free, vegan, and paleo treat all summer long!
First published May 2015
This recipe is inspired by my blueberry nice cream. I've been making different nice cream flavors with frozen banana + another fruit ever since then. However, it wasn't until the other night, when I had an intense chocolate ice cream craving, I figured there must be a way to make chocolate flavored banana nice cream.
Blending frozen banana in a food processor creates this amazing consistency like ice cream or soft serve, but completely without added sugar or dairy. Which makes it vegan, paleo, and gluten-free!
Aside from frozen bananas and cocoa powder I also added a little espresso powder to make the flavor more interesting and pecan nuts for some crunchy texture.
Ingredients & Substitutions
- banana - freeze beforehand in slices or in chunks
- cocoa powder
- instant espresso powder - or instant coffee
- pecans - chopped; or walnuts or other nuts
See recipe box for details.
Instructions
Blend banana, cocoa and instant espresso powder into smooth consistency.
Add chopped pecans and pulse just a few times to combine.
Scoop into small serving bowl.
Optionally top with instant espresso powder, chopped nuts, or chocolate chips.
Tools
This nice cream or any other recipe with a majority of frozen ingredients works best if using a heavy duty food processor or high speed blender. I like to use my Vitamix with a tamper or Blendtec with the twister lid.
Storage
Nice cream has the best texture when freshly blended. That's why I give measurements for a single serving below. You can easily multiply with the 2x or 3x buttons.
Should you still end up with leftovers, or want to make this ahead, I recommend storing this banana mocha ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer. If it freezes too solid and icy, you can re-blend before serving.

These look amazing! I love playing around with different flavours when I make the quickie banana ice cream. Still not sure where the nice cream name originated.Still can't leave a comment on eBay for some odd reason...
