And just like that 2016 is coming to an end. It's been a tough year in some aspects. Many can't wait for it to be over and to turn over a new page in 2017.
I am not one to dwell on the past, but I like a good review to remind myself of what went well and what can be improved on.
We started the year in Chiang Mai, Thailand, finishing our first stint of family location independence. We learnt a lot there - mainly that we CAN do this!
At the same time, I was ready to move on. I had started to associate Chiang Mai with a LOT of hard work and felt somewhat burnt out. The quiet beach town of Hoi An, Vietnam was perfect to relax and enjoy a few calmer months.
We spent early summer back home in Canada looking after my parent's homestead and also went on a fantastic Rocky Mountain road trip. During this time, I finally released my Coconut Flour eBook just in time before we moved on to our current location in Mexico.
We've spent the second half of the year here in San Miguel de Allende. There aren't any posts about it so far, as I feel like this is a story we are still living and I can't write about, yet. But we are really loving it here - the weather, food, people and learning Spanish.

So, now for the top 10 recipes of 2016: I had actually planned to completely take OFF this week between Christmas and New Year's. After a crazy busy Q4 I really needed to do some things that weren't work.
But then all these other top 10 posts started appearing and I was just too curious not to dig into my statistics to see what recipes you loved most this year. Turns out you really like a LOT of things posted in previous years. I think these top 3 will be hard to push off their podium, ever!
So, in the following list I only included recipes that were actually posted in 2016. You can see what was popular last year here. Or jump to the future 2020.
Enjoy! And Happy New Year!

I am really excited to see some posts on your life in Mexico. I have actually always wanted to live there-- do you feel like where you are now is safe? It seems Mexico isn't as safe as it used to be (like when I was doing a semester abroad in Cordoba Veracuz.. in like 2001!).

I am so excited for my first Mexican cooking class coming up on Thursday!! Finally, after 6 months of too much work busyness. San Miguel is very safe. In general, we feel Mexico is safe. As with every country, there are areas to avoid. But this general idea of it not being safe is mainly due to negative media hype. So awesome that you've studied here!
